Quartz countertops are a big trend in today’s market. They are readily available in a large variety of colors. Prices will range, but in general are towards the higher end when compared to most granites. They are made with a mix of natural quartz and polyester resin. There are a few things, such as permanent markers, that can stain quartz surfaces but not true granite. Overall, in regards to performance in a kitchen setting, they stand up well to heat and scratches and have very low maintenance.
Can you put a hot pan on quartz?
Although quartz is very scratch resistant, we do recommend using a cutting board on your quartz countertop. A hot pot or pan can potentially lead to discoloration, we suggest using a trivet to maintain the quality of your countertop.
What is better granite or quartz?
Quartz is actually harder than granite and thus, more durable. In fact, quartz is nearly indestructible, and because it isn't porous like granite, it's easy to keep your countertops relatively bacteria-free. Be careful with cooking pans though: Quartz can be damaged by excessive heat, so use heating pads at all times.

A quartz countertop is made up of nearly 93% quartz with the rest being the resin and pigments. The resin can only withstand temperatures of around 150 degrees. The answer is - it depends, and it's still better to use a cutting board. Hard stone countertops like granite and quartz can withstand knife work in the kitchen without scratching. However, if you cut acidic foods like citrus fruits, the acid can degrade the surface of the countertop, leaving a noticeable dull spot.
